It's time to bring in the cool breezes
When you need beauty, durability, and protection against the elements, double-hung windows from LAS Shutters + Windows are the best choice for your project. Double-hung windows add timeless value and comfort to your home. In true Louisiana fashion, these windows offer modern flexibility, convenience, and style to your biggest investment: your home.
Unlike their single hung counterparts, double-hung windows feature two operating sashes. You can open the window in the traditional way from the bottom up as well as from the top down. This allows for better ventilation. The top sash releases hot air while the bottom sash allows fresh, cooler air in.
The two panes of double-hung windows also provide better energy efficiency to your home and help to protect interior furniture and fabrics from fading and sun damage.
LAS Shutters + Windows only offers the best-quality double-hung windows, installed and certified by our trained technicians. While single hung windows are appropriate in some applications, our team can help you decide which option is best for your project. You can also learn more about the different types of windows available for your home in our Windows 101 guide.
How do double-hung windows work?
Each sash on a double-hung window moves on its own track. When the window is unlocked, each pane moves up and down independently to open or close as needed.
Our double-hung windows also feature tilting sashes to allow you to keep them sparkling clean. Simply release the pane you’d like to clean with the latch on the side, tilt the window in, and shine away!
Single Hung Windows Vs. Double Hung
Casement, fixed, and architectural windows all have specific functions and purposes in a home. For the majority of homeowners, though, you'll have to make the decision between single hung windows and double hung for the windows throughout most of your home.
Unlike single hung windows, double hung windows have two sashes that you can open. This means you can open just the top portion to let in a breeze, open both, or just open the lower. There are also benefits when it comes to cleaning the outside of the panes, especially if you have a two-story home.
On the other hand, single hung windows have their own benefits.
Double-hung window benefits
Low e-glass blocks UV light and keeps heating and cooling costs low
Argon gas between panes increases your home's energy efficiency
Double panes provide an extra barrier of protection for your home
Both sashes slide up or down to provide natural ventilation
